Scudamore told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper he believes Germany’s recent investment in youth is exemplary and, while saying England is “catching up”, he added more needed to be done to follow the Bundesliga’s example. “Germany has done a great deal for the development of young players since 2001 and we’re still lagging behind,” Scudamore said. “The quote from (Germany coach Joachim) Low that winning the World Cup title was only made possible by the reform of German football and hard work is something we in England have got to remember.” German football reacted to a disappointing showing at Euro 2000 by strengthening links between clubs and the national association with all pulling in the same direction in the nurturing of young, talented players. Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger were the first off the production line and the likes of Marco Reus, Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze and Toni Kroos are the latest examples. All have contributed to raising the profile of the Bundesliga, even though Scudamore insists the Premier League is the most attractive league in Europe. “We’ve simply got more clubs who have greater financial potential to compete with the biggest European teams when it comes to buying the best talent,” he said. “Our clubs are highly attractive for these players.” Scudamore nevertheless admitted there are some players in the Bundesliga he would not mind seeing in the Premier League. “I don’t think it would be right to mention any names, but all I can say is that there are some wonderful players in the Bundesliga who would also shine here,” he said. Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has admitted the English top flight is lagging behind Germany’s Bundesliga when it comes to youth development, but still believes his own is the more attractive league for players. Paul Pogba should no longer be considered a young player and he must now step up and become a leader for France, says Hugo LlorisThe Manchester United midfielder has had difficult second season back at the club with Pogba’s relationship with Jose Mourinho having become strained after the Portuguese coach benched him towards the end of the season amid rumours of a falling out between the pair. The 25-year-old hasn’t fared much better on the international stage, but is still considered an important member of the France squad. But France captain Lloris believes that Pogba has been unfairly judged this season and has challenged the former Juventus star to become the leader their team need ahead of the World Cup.“Paul is no longer a young player,” said the 31-year-old, according to the Evening Standard.Opinion: Neymar will earn respect back from the PSG fans Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 14, 2019 After completing his incredible return to Parc des Princes, we predict that Neymar will earn the respect back from PSG supporters. The situation between Neymar…“He has collected experience with his club and with the national team.“He has a lot of talent and that label has stuck with him since the beginning. He has had a very good season, although people still debate it. As a football player and as a football fan, I think he had a very good season.“He has this desire to shine with the French national team. Will he be the ‘boss’? That’s a strong word but a ‘leader’ is what is expected of him on and off the field.“He is reaching maturity and he wants to do well. But it’s also important that he focuses on his individual performance. This is the best way, to lead by example.”Pogba scored six goals and added 12 assists in 37 games for United this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo will score at least 40 goals this season and will ensure Juventus’ continued domination of the Serie A until 2022, says Antonio CassanoIt took just eight minutes for Ronaldo to score in his first appearance in a Juventus shirt in an annual friendly against the Juventus B team over the weekend. And Cassano, who won the Serie A in 2011 with AC Milan, feels that Ronaldo is ready-made for Juventus and will fire them to further dominance in Italian football with the club having already won the league crown for the past seven seasons in succession.“It goes without saying now, Juventus have the Scudetto sewn up until 2022,” said Cassano, according to Football-Italia.“CR7 will score at least 40 goals, while I only see Inter behind the Bianconeri.“Juventus did a great deal by signing the second best player in the world. Of course, I still consider Lionel Messi to be the best, as I even named my son after him. Ronaldo will repay Juve not just in goals and results, but also in economic terms.“I know Real Madrid well and all that counts, even for Florentino Perez, is the club. When the time came, they dumped the Brazilian Ronaldo and David Beckham, so I’m not surprised they treated Cristiano like that too.“CR7 is made for Juve. He’s like an extra-terrestrial in terms of fitness, as he loves hard work and never takes his foot off the gas. I’m sure he’ll get along well with Allegri, as Max is extraordinary when dealing with champions.”Maurizio Sarri satisfied despite Juventus’ draw at Fiorentina Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Maurizio Sarri was satisfied with Juventus’ performance on Saturday afternoon after finishing a tough game at Fiorentina 0-0.Ronaldo will finish as the Serie A’s top scorer this season, although he may have benefitted from Gonzalo Higuain had Juventus decided to retain him.“Ronaldo will be Capocannoniere, with Gonzalo Higuain and Edin Dzeko on the podium. I’d put Mauro Icardi fourth in the list,” said Cassano.“I do believe Gonzalo could’ve played with Ronaldo, because he is effectively a copy of Karim Benzema and it won’t be easy to find a role for Paulo Dybala now. While the Turin supporters are hoping that Ronaldo will help end their 22-year wait for Champions League glory, Cassano doesn’t seem to think that will be the case.“Having said that, I don’t think Juve are the favourites to win the Champions League, as I’d give that to Barcelona,” he said.
